A Guide to the Wonderful Things to Do in Amman

The capital city of Jordan has a good mixture of modern and ancient features. Visitors will have lots of things to do in Amman no matter what time of the year they choose to visit the city. Festivals in Amman

One of the things to do in Amman is to take part in one of the festivals that’s celebrated in the city. Every summer, revellers go to the King Hussein Park for the annual Amman Summer Festival, which is a celebration featuring art, music, and dance.


The Baladk Street Art Festival takes place every May. It features street art masterpieces. July is when the Franco-Arab Film Festival is held and showcases French-Arab movies. If you can’t visit Amman in summer, you can attend the European Film Festival in November.


Amman – A Foodies Destination

Another Amman attraction is its foods. There’s a variety of food that you can taste in the Jordanian capital, from sweet to spicy flavours and everything in between. One of the tourist attractions in the city is the King Hussein Mosque. There you can smell the flaky baklawa, sweet kanafeh, and the candied fruits. They are sold at the Souk Al-Sukar or sugar market.


Tourists can learn how to prepare a four-course meal at the BeitSitti. If you just want to enjoy traditional Levantine and Jordanian cuisines, then head to the KanZaman. There you will be served good food while enjoying an old world atmosphere underneath vaulted stone ceilings, and listening to traditional Arabic music.


Night Life in an Ancient City

One of the things to do in Amman is to go out and have fun at night. There are lots of lounges and bars you can go to in Amman that include the H20 Pool and Lounge and the Ghoroub Lounge. The latter is located at the rooftop of the Landmark Hotel and provides a grand view of the city. If you want to have a laidback night out with friends, you can head to one of the coffee, and shisha lounges found all over the city.


Art Lovers in Amman

To see works of contemporary Arab and Jordanian artists, go to the Darat al-Funun, which is the ruins of a sixth-century Byzantine church. It has been said that The Lawrence of Arabia, T.E. Lawrence, was once a guest of the renovated 1920s building. That’s why it is one of the tourist attractions in Amman.


Shopaholics Destination

Amman has winding souks where you can find vendors selling all kinds of stuff. There you can find jewellery items, lanterns, antiques, and souvenirs. If you want to buy gold and silver jewellery, head to the Gold Souk. For vintage fashion items, go to the Museum of Popular Tradition and the Jordan Folklore Museum.
