Explore the Guayaquil Metropolitan Cathedral when You Visit Guayaquil

If you are wondering what to do in Guayaquil, head to the Metropolitan Cathedral that is formerly known as the Mother Church. Constructed 3 centuries ago, the cathedral which was initially built as Guayaquil’s second temple has been invaded by pirates and destroyed by fire. Tourists admired the Gothic style design of the cathedral, stained glass windows, and the 3 naves.


Museo Antropologico y de Arte Contemporaneo

When you visit Guayaquil, head to Museo Antropologico y de Arte Contemporaneo which is at the end of the riverfront. From Tuesday to Friday, it can be visited as from 0900 hours to 1630 hours while during the weekend it is from 1000 hours.  Besides the changing exhibitions, there are pre-Colombian pieces and videos on display. Visitors can enjoy watching films and concerts in its theatre that has a capacity of 350 audiences.

Here you learn the historical legacy of Guayaquil that dates back to the 18th century. Stroll through the narrow streets of the city as you admire the waterfront banks and the riverside houses. There are many reasons it was declared as a Cultural Heritage back in the year 1982.


Explore Malecon 2000 when You Visit Guayaquil

Once you visit Guayaquil, you should ensure that you visit Malecon 2000. The public space here consists of a museum, a performance area, a mall, restaurants and a movie theatre. Inside Malecon 2000 which boasts enhanced security, you get to enjoy spectacular river views; there are playgrounds, gardens, and sculpture among other highlights. This is what has made it as South America’s largest urban renewal project.


Visit Santay Island

Visiting Santay Island is one of the most interesting things to do in Guayaquil. From the Guayaquil Yacht Club, visitors board boats to the island while by foot or bicycle; they can access it from the El Oro Street Bridge. The beauty of visiting the island is that you do it free of charge. Although there are plenty of things to do in Santay Island, one of the highlights is visiting the Crocodile Station which is home to 12 crocodile.


There are plenty of notable places to visit in Guayaquil. Besides the activities, there is a waterfront square brimming, the gothic cathedral, and a park that is entirely dedicated to iguanas and Malecon 2000 among others. To visit Guayaquil is a rewarding experience and a stroll around the city is quite rewarding.
